Insects, Diseases & Climate Change – Implications for Management

April 12 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Climate Change Integration Team Webinar

This webinar will open with a discussion of observed and projected changes in climate, the direct and indirect effects of climate change on bark beetles and their hosts in California, and management actions that increase the resilience of forests to bark beetles and climate change.

The discussion will then shift to a review of how climate and microbes are impacting California’s drought- and heat-stressed forests, plus management approaches to adapt to changing climatic conditions. Known forest disease-climate relationships will be addressed together with a recently published Framework for investigating climate and tree diseases.

The webinar will conclude by highlighting key work related to how climate change is affecting insects and diseases in Hawaii and the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands, including a discussion on how climate change is influencing invasive pathways.
