Seeking a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) to join our team in Roseville (preferred), Eureka, Santa Rosa, or Ukiah, CA! 

American AgCredit is hiring a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or experienced forester within one year of taking the RPF exam to work out of our office in Roseville, California. We are looking for a highly motivated and curious individual to assist with timberland appraisal, agricultural land appraisal, forest products economics advising, timber loan structuring, and field servicing. Desired candidate will have strong interest or background in forest inventory, finance, statistics, economics, and/or analysis.

The successful applicant will be trained and supported in the acquisition of a Certified General Appraiser license and is expected to learn local agricultural markets in addition to forestry and timber products portfolio responsibilities. This position involves regular travel, including out of state, in addition to attending industry and outreach events.

The Appraiser/Forester is a professional forester who is knowledgeable about the forest products industry and timber economics.  Individuals in this position will be working towards state licensing as a real estate appraiser. Once the individual becomes proficient, the individual will be able to complete moderately complex agricultural real estate appraisals and chattel reports and under the supervision of a licensed appraiser.

This person is also responsible for real estate and timber loan servicing duties associated with the Capital Markets Group including coordinating with the Field Servicing Specialist I and II positions and preparing reports as required.  Additional duties include assisting in the due diligence, structuring and monitoring of loans to the forest products industry and agri-business, review of third-party appraisals, and providing consulting services to Lending staff on general collateral and forestry issues as necessary.  This position also includes assisting the Capital Markets Group with business development.

A person in this position may have an expanded role in directing and managing a particular geographical area or process.  This may include being accountable for mentoring, training or supervising junior staff.  However, management responsibilities are not a required criteria to hold an Appraiser- Licensed Forester title.


1) Conduct economic analysis and prepare forecasts (supply, demand, cost benchmarking and prices) all as relates to the segments of the forest products industry (logs, chips, lumber, pulp and paper) in which AgCredit makes and services loans and other financial products.  Review and report on economic trends to AgCredit staff and clients.

2) Analyze timberland and conversion facility income statements, cash flows, and operating pro-formas and evaluate business risk.

3) Assist in the structuring of loans and loan covenants appurtenant to timber, timberlands, property, plant and equipment and related assets.

4) Provide timberland and forest product inventory monitoring services including, but not limited to, evaluations, inspections, borrowing base monitoring and timber harvest monitoring.  With respect to collateralized properties, manage partial releases, substitutions, easements and related real property transactions.  Review borrower prepared reports, perform in-house and field audits and prepare reports for AgCredit staff and clients.

5) Review title issues, legal descriptions, access issues, and environmental disclosures.

6) Assist with appraisals of real property, including timber, forest products, manufacturing facilities, and agricultural properties to determine value; and conduct appraisals, inspections and reconciliations of chattels on large complex or unique operations..  This includes coordination with Lending and Capital Markets staff to prioritize assignments and provide good customer service.

7) Compile and analyze market, sales, rent, and economic information and other data used in the development of evaluations and appraisals; research and document commodity costs and prices; develop industry appraisal information and guidelines.

8) Engage in business development for timber loan servicing and fee appraisal assignments including the preparation of service agreements and monitoring fee appraisal receivables.

9) Establish and maintain good customer relations by providing ongoing communication, coordination, and assistance throughout the appraisal and loan servicing process.

10) Represent the Association at community, agricultural, and forest industry meetings and projects.

11) Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule and be willing to travel extensively within and outside Association territory.

12) Perform other functions assigned.



1) BS degree in forest management, agricultural management, agricultural business, business administration; real estate, or economics.

2) California Registered Professional Forester (may require registry in other states) OR within 6 months of obtaining.

3) At least 2 to 5 years’ experience as a forester and with experience completing progressively more complex assignments.

5) Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.  Must be proficient in organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and have demonstrated ability to generate highly accurate work and make sound decisions.

6) Ability to work well with people at all levels throughout the company; exercise initiative; and convey ideas clearly.

7) Good working knowledge of the geographic region typically served and has ability to work in other geographic areas as needed.

8) Proficient in the use of mobile communication and navigational devices, PC, word processing and electronic spreadsheet software, financial models, inventory compilation, growth and harvest schedule modeling, and geographic information systems.

Must have the ability to perform basic office tasks and work in a typical office setting. Employee will be sitting for extended periods of time and accomplishing work at a desk, working at a computer, or driving for an extended period of time.  Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to adequately convey ideas and work well with a team.  Ability to talk and hear, sit and use their hands and fingers, and reach in all directions is essential in performance of the job.  Some lifting and moving of items up to 50 pounds required.  Work during established business hours and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
