Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction to second year diploma students and be available for student consultation
  • Demonstrate and supervise Site Plan data collection in the field
  • Provide knowledgeable instruction on Silviculture Systems used throughout BC
  • Instruct on the various Stand Tending practices used by Forest Professionals in BC
  • Provide instruction on how to collect field data, summarise results, and present finding for student forestry applied research projects
  • Lecture on central forest heath issues, including the ecological role and forest management implications of various biotic, and abiotic agents
  • Co-instruct a multi-week integrated forestry planning project containing equal field and office components
  • Review and update curriculum to ensure currency and relevance
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Participate in instructional team meetings

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Active engagement of students in a variety of face-to-face learning strategies
  • Create and maintain a positive and respectful learning environment
  • Confidence in use of the Moodle learning management system
  • Experience in use of current technology applied in forestry operations
  • Expertise in relational practice and team work
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Education and Experience

  • Qualified applicants should be a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) in good standing with the Association of BC Forest Professionals
  • Graduate degree in Forestry or related discipline preferred
  • Five years of experience in a variety of industry settings
  • Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary setting is an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

This is a short term, 6-59% position (depending on qualifications) commencing August 5, 2019 and ending April 23, 2020. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement.

The salary range is $2,232.42 – $3,587.27 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
